WNBR Intern Reporter

Martin had been an intern for the local news channel for over a month when, in the team meeting, he quickly volunteered to cover an event that weekend. The event, he found out later, was the WNBR - World Naked Bike Ride.

“What? You mean all the riders will be naked?” Martin asked incredulously.

“Well, it’s strictly ‘dare-to-bare’,” replied Gavin, his manager.

“What does that even mean?”

“Naked if you dare, or not quite so naked if you daren’t. Simple really. Is there a problem here, Martin, because I can always re-assign this,” Gavin replied.

“No, no, not at all. So, there I will be interviewing the riders before the ride? Is that the idea?”

“Yes, and going on the ride yourself, commentating as you ride,” explained Gavin.

“What? You want me to ride too?” Martin’s eyes widened at the implication of this set in.

“Yes, this would be new. These events are always reported from the sideline. But you, will be there, right amongst them. It will be a scoop. We’ll have a cameraman riding beside you the whole way too.”

Martin stammered, “Woah, but hang on, if I’m riding in the WBNR, I won’t be naked will I?”

“Of course you will, Martin. That is part of the scoop. You will be the first reporter to cover the WNBR during the ride itself,” Gavin explained, breaking into a smile.

“But, but… do I really have to be naked?” gasped Martin, squirming in his seat.

“Yes, of course, Martin. It wouldn’t make such a great story if you were clothed, now would it? You do see that, don’t you?”

“I guess so, yes, but…”

“Well, that’s agree then. Perfect. Don’t let me down on this, Martin. Do a great job and this might secure you a paid position on the firm.”

And that’s how Martin got to be holding the microphone, interviewing WBNR riders before the event. The cameraman had all of Martin’s clothes safely tucked away in his pannier, telling Martin this would be best, it would make Martin committed to the ride - naked.
